Who receives what
Tap a row to see the detail. Vercel and Google (YouTube, sign-in) are based in the United States: their policies, linked in the detail, explain how they govern these transfers.
Audience measurement, without cookies
To find out which pages and games are really used, and how people move around the site. Tool: PostHog Inc. ↗, set up to place no cookies and keep nothing on your device: your visit is forgotten when you close the tab, and two visits cannot be linked.
- Pages viewed
- Clicks on links and buttons (the element and its text)
- Game finished: the game and the region
- Search: region, appellation or village
- Stamp added, share, sign-in, message sent
- Discover: buttons clicked, video played
- Page address, without parameters
- Page you came from
- Browser and device type, screen size
- Country, inferred from the IP address, which is not kept
Never · what you type, your score, your answers, a video recording of your browsing.
Hosted in the European Union (Frankfurt, Germany). To avoid being counted, an ad blocker is enough: the site works just the same.
What stays on your device
So that your games are still there from one visit to the next, without an account. Stored in your browser, sent nowhere.
The daily challenge: the players' average
When you submit the challenge, your distance and score are sent with the day and a random number drawn for that game (so it is not counted twice). They are used to calculate the average you see after playing.
Nothing that identifies you: no account, no device, no IP address. Nobody can read these scores one by one. Hosted by Supabase Inc. in Ireland (European Union), deleted after 90 days.
If you create an account (optional)
It serves one purpose only: finding your progress on all your devices. The whole site stays playable without one.
- Email address
- Hashed password, unreadable even by the publisher
- Date on which you confirmed you are 18 or over (no date of birth)
- Username and avatar, if you choose them
- Progress: challenge, streak, quiz, stamps, wishlist, best scores, game history (score, time, questions and answers)
- Your username only appears on the image of your map when you share it. No other player sees it.
- Google sign-in: Google sends us your email, your name and your photo, and only learns that you are signing in here.
- A session key “sb-…” stays in your browser, deleted when you sign out.
Hosted by Supabase Inc. ↗ in Ireland (European Union), kept as long as your account exists.
change your address (effective after clicking the link sent to the new one) or your password, download your data (readable file + spreadsheet of your history), delete your account (immediate and permanent).Open settings
If you write to us (optional)
“Feedback?” sends your message, its type (error, bug, idea, other), the source you cite if there is one, and the page you are writing from (unless you detach it from the message). Your email only if you give it, so we can reply. No IP address, no browser. Hosted by Supabase Inc. in Ireland (European Union), read by the publisher alone, deleted one year after sending at the latest.
Videos
Some pages offer videos hosted by YouTube. Nothing is loaded from YouTube until you click “Play the video”: before that, the page only shows an image served by this site. Once started, the video plays from youtube-nocookie.com; YouTube (Google) then receives your IP address and may set its cookies. Your consent is remembered on your device.
Photos
Some village pages, and the “Where is this village?” game, show a photo from Wikimedia Commons, with its author and licence. It goes through this site: our host fetches it from Wikimedia, then serves it to you. Your browser never contacts Wikimedia, which receives neither your IP address nor the page you are reading, and cannot set any cookie.
The host
Like any site, this one goes through a host, Vercel Inc. ↗, which processes the technical data needed to send you the pages, including your IP address, and keeps it in its logs for the security of the service.
Your rights
You can ask to access, correct, retrieve or erase your data, or object to audience measurement. The data controller is the publisher, Eric Foucault.
If this changes
If the site adds a service that receives data, this page will say so before it is put in place, with what is collected and why.
