Delimited plot area
The plots recognised as suitable for producing an appellation, within its geographical area.
Within the geographical area of an appellation, INAO delimits plot by plot the land recognised as suitable for producing the wine, using criteria such as the type of soil, the aspect or local custom.
Only grapes harvested on these plots may claim the appellation. Part of the delimited area may be covered by woods, meadows or houses: it designates the suitable land, planted or not.
This is the area drawn on this site's map, from INAO data, and whose surface each appellation page gives.
